I’ve done okay using IMR 4198 in my Beaumont. But am looking to make use of the other powders I have on hand, other than black powder. Looking at my Lyman 47th reloading handbook, under 45/70 loads for trap doors, I see loads for some of my other powders. Such as Rx7, 3031, 4227, 2400 and unique. Am I correct that these loads have similar pressure levels to the Beaumont round, plus the larger Beaumont case capacity gives even lower pressure with similar loads? Anyone use these powders in their Beaumont’s? My intent is to start near the lowest load listed for each powder in the trap door section and work slowly up. My bullet is a 20:1 soft cast 400 grain bullet tumble lubed with xlox. Please advise as to whether I’m on the right track or not. Thanks.
