Well, the board is either fixed, or it's going to run terribly. Cross your fingers and hope for the best. I'm at my technical limit right now.

New To Me, Ishapore 2A1

#1 Post by boltactionbill » Wed Aug 29, 2018 6:18 pm

Here is a quick view of my previously mentioned gun show find 1967 Ishapore 2A1. I purchased the rifle complete with all matching numbers including the magazine. I've looked at many of them and never saw one with a matching magazine before. The bore and chamber are pristine and I'm looking forward to shooting it tomorrow. The only change I've made so far is the addition of a rear peep sight as I couldn't focus on the notch. These rifles were made for young guys not old farts so that's to be expected. Enjoy the pics. - Bill

I love those rifles, really when you think of it they should be in Shooting condition until 2067 if they follow their Enfield cousins examples..

So is this then the last Bolt action rifle adopted by for major countries Army for General use.?? You always hear that the m47 Madsen being the last Bolt action rifle.. But India was making these into the 1970s and they made about 100 times more 2a1 then they made m47s

Now this is a coincidence as I saw a 1967 dated 2A1 today at a LGS. It looked like it had had a hard life and his asking price was quite a bit north of what I paid for my 2A a couple months back but it was still a temptation to have a rifle the same age as myself. Nice lookin' rifle man.

Did you get the peep that replaces the notched blade?

Oh yea Tommy it's on there already. I couldn't even focus on the notch. The joy of aging. - Bill

Existing screw but longer.
The top mount is replacement spring, washer & screw for the safety, the bottom the rear trigger guard screw.

Ishapore 2A1 Range Report:
So I finally got the Ishapore to the range and it did well when I did my part.
Again old eyes, open sights and a 100 yard distance do not equal the most accurate shooting.
The rifle definitely had a preference for ammo. I had 3 flavors of 7.62x51 ammo to feed it with, '05 white box Winchester, '13 Lake City and this '94 silver bullet ammo which I think is Austrian or German. It didn't like the '94 ammo at all, it shot it all over the place thank goodness I only had the 10 rounds of it. The white box Winchester did ok but it liked the Lake City the best.

Top target is a 5 shot group of the Winchester which went wide, the bottom is the Lake City which held windage fine, the hi and low was me! The marked shots all over the place are the silver bullets. I ran out of cover dots so went to the marker. Strangely enough the rifle was dead on at 100 yards with no adjustments. I initially started with a 6 o'clock hold expecting it to shoot high but it shot low so I went to a center hold.

Tommy I like that P-H sight a lot. Much better than the peep that replaced the notch I have on it now.
Which by the way was the only reason I (sadly) shot as well as I did! - Bill
