Well, the board is either fixed, or it's going to run terribly. Cross your fingers and hope for the best. I'm at my technical limit right now.

NEW Mosin value check.

#1 Post by jaytex1969 » Sat Apr 21, 2018 2:59 pm

Good afternoon.

I've found a local posting of a fellow with a NEW Mosin for sale.

It's in a later stock. He removed the original for a "project" BUT he NEVER ALTERED the original stock after all.

Includes a bayonet and some loading dies. Asking $550.

What's a fair price on a NEW Mosin and what should I look out for?

Thanks.

Jay

This is a matching intact NEW see link.

A NEW marked turn, lock ring bayonet is $100. Look for an intact Russian eagle, a cleaning rod, stock cartouches, no SA stamp. Check the parts for correct NEW maker's marks, make sure the bolt matches and the barrel is not counterbored. Check bore to see its condition. See if it is import marked or not. Value is off the charts depending on so many factors $400 -1200. Look at the rifle and report back on its attributes. I recently saw a M91 Remington all missmatched, no cleaning rod, refinished stock with an import mark and scrubbed eagle, shot out, rusted, sewer pipe bore and I thought as a wall hanger maybe $100-150. The guy thought I was nuts; his price was $600 for total garbage.

Also look at the stock finish. Arsenal refinish? A Home boy garbage refinish/ sanded? Is the stock finish original? Does it still have the "English Contract" cartouche on it?
Have any of the serial numbers been 'forced matched' or are they the original serial numbers? Any line outs? Any scrub markings on the metal. Look at the bolt parts for NEW maker marks.
Does the serial number on the bayonet match the rifle ( very rare)? Is it a NEW bayonet? Any sling?

Saw one for sale at this last weekends gun show. He started at $1000 and had it lowered down to $700 by Sunday. It was quite nice with a correct cleaning rod. I doubt he'll get that much for it , in this area. He's getting closer though.
