The Gewehr 43 is probably the #1 gun on my dream list (yes, it's a small dream...but I love the history behind them and I've wanted one more than anything else). Right now, I don't have the money to afford a rifle in the $3000 range...I'm going to need to save for one and that's going to take me some time (probably a few years).
What I'd like to do is learn about them. I want to know what to look for...what to avoid. I want to become as knowledgeable as I can about the rifle itself so when I'm ready to buy I know what I am looking at.
Can anyone here point me in the direction of some good references (sites, books, ect.) that might be able yo get me started in learning about this rifle? Thanks.
Well, the board is either fixed, or it's going to run terribly. Cross your fingers and hope for the best. I'm at my technical limit right now.

You are very prudent to learn about the gun. before you buy it Good luck in your search
Re: Gewehr 43 Questions
I've read that these Gewehr 43s were greatly over gassed to the point where they'd beat themselves apart very quickly? A friend just North of me has one he'd like to sell.

Re: Gewehr 43 Questions
Cracked receivers are a thing that happens occasionally. Splits in the stock/handguard too. There's also the typical collectable things-- being able to spot refinished stocks, reproduction stocks, refinished/polished metal, and how to price it accordingly (good luck, this one requires quite a bit of time and research). Buy the rifle not the story always applies, too. Look out for incredulous descriptions. Honest sellers will have, or can produce photos of all matching numbers if so advertised.
