Old leather and metal together ....
Still nice pistol with long and interesting history!

I think the rust and pitting is from being stored in the leather holster for the last 70+ years and never being whipped down with oil. As M67 said its not the best way to store a pistol for a long time. I could only guess a WW2 Vet brought it home with him and put it in the basement and forgot about it.

Not as good as a found in the barn story... But still the its amazing how destructive leather and pelts can be to metal.. Had an antelope hide on a cannon mount for a couple years.. When I removed it one day for cleaning, I was amazed how the chemicals in the hide has rusted the metal in a very short time.

I can not imagine 70 years.. Neat that it still works.. are any of the inside parts affected at all???

There was some pitting in the bore but that could have come from not being cleaned after firing corrosive ammo. Still shoots a good pattern though.
