Thanks guys,

A sad 14th of july indeed I did not want to see our new sad looking lefty president parading in front of the troops so I went for a long walk in the coutryside with the dog.

Dale, The bastille castle was almost empty when it got stormed, 1O prisoners of small rank were still incarcerated then, and most had a better lifestyle behind bars than the mob who freed them.

Le marquis de Sade was jailed with the insane people at Charenton Hospital at the time, and writing "Justine", he was released in 1790.

Kelt: Well the US Educational System is responsible for my mistake!!! A University Professor told me that DeSade was in the Bastille, and the Revolutionaries locked him right back up....So much for European History in College--at least here!!!

Vonmazur:

That Charenton story may have come from the Brechtian popular play, "Persecution and death of Marat...", noteworthy in the days of our youth. The historical story, I recall, was that the counter 'revolutionary-terror' aristo, Charlotte Corday (SP?) shanked him at his home while he was working in his sitz bath/mange-dip. I was reading history at the time, and believed that such narratives are composed to satisfy posterity's curiosity while putting the best 'spin' upon events. Again, from the recollections of long ago, the biographies seem to speak to the use of co-option of the extreme-left's stalwart call for the purging of Revolutionary society through the means of the bloody-terror of the mob, rather than that of the governing assemblies. A tool for this purpose was to dwell upon the proclivities of Nihilistic-Anarchism's major advocate. This being most affective, we are told, because the 'morality of the people was remarkably conservative. Not withstanding what we may remember, July 14 is a great anniversary for all peoples.
