I have a Geco coming. All I have are the auction pictures and the sellers description of condition. Everything seems good except the bolt slides out of the receiver, no bolt stop. I'm trying to mentally prepare for what is needed but I don't know how the bolt is retained in the rifle. I'm guessing it needs an extractor/ejector like the majority of these need. I have the majority of the dimensions so I can mill a new one, just need the rifle for final fitting.
So, does anyone know how the bolt is retained in the receiver? Ejector? Trigger? Separate bolt stop?
Auction pics shown.

Cool looking little rifle. Not sure about the bolt stop.

I'm thinking either the top of the trigger is where it is held in and it is worn, or, the extractor part that rides under the bolt has a ramp to spring it up when ejecting. It has a flat facing the muzzle. If it isn't there or broke off, it could be that.
Yea, it's a cool one. It has the stock cheek rest which I haven't seen on other pictures I've found of the model 1919. A little different. It's missing the front and rear sling swivels which screw into fittings on the underside of the stock and barrel.
I guess I'll mill up an extractor while I'm waiting for it to arrive. I could always sell it if I don't need it.
But if anyone knows how the bolt is retained, please let me know.

JBs,

I have a Geco, and the trigger is the bolt stop.

My extractor is worn and fired cases rupture right at the extractor.

If you were to make an extra extractor/ejector I would be interested in buying one.

Regards,

TJN

The seller said it had the smoothest trigger he's felt which means the top of the trigger is worn. Guess I'll have to wait for the rifle to get here so I can make a new trigger. Hopefully not the bolt body. That would be a bit harder.
Let me see what I come up with. I'll need to receive this rifle so i can do final fitting and figure out if I need to harden and than temper the steel. If it all works out, I should be able to help you out. Give me about a month.

They do (mine anyways) have very smooth triggers. I don't know if it worn parts or by design. It has a good bit of take up 1/4"+ and then breaks under 2lbs. My rifle belonged to my Grandfather and was his Barn Gun. It definitely shows its age, but it still shoots after all these years.

The problem is the cases rupture because of the worn "half moon" extractor.
I still shoot it with Aguila "no powder" ammo, and it is fine.

Just can't bring myself to let the old coot go.

Finally arrived today. It's missing the extractor like I thought. The bolt stop is the sear, trigger rides on the bottom of the receiver to move the sear to fire and release the bolt. Sear spring screw was loose. At least now I can finish milling out the extractor so I can get the rest of my missing dimensions and figure out if I can case harden it using 1018 or use a harder alloy. Probably the harder alloy.
Need to give the stock a BLO scrub and see how it looks. Overall length of this from butt to muzzle is 40". Neat little rifle.
Good project for the next month.

I milled out a couple extractors and finally had a chance to test them. The extractors work fine and chuck the brass decently. Slight bulge in the case but no splits/cracks. I still haven't decided if I need to harden the metal but seems good so far. Target was at 35 yds. The 2 lower holes are from a rest with 1 shot each using both extractors. The 4 upper holes are standing offhand. Bore was dirty (clean and shiney now) and I didn't have much time to play but I know it will do much better. Trigger is extremely light and will take some getting used to, especially after a mosin trigger pull. Gotta love putting this old 22 back in working shape for under $100.

Had a 1/2 hour to play while I was renewing my membership at the base range today. Found out something really neat about this rifle. The rear sight V rides in a block. There is a screw for removal, or at least I thought. It has a washer on it the fits in a groove on the V sight. As you unscrew it the rear sight rises. I was shooting at 35 yards so take that for what it's worth. From the bull line, one full screw turn moves POI up about 1". 2 turns moved it up about 2". 3 turns put it up about 4" and 4 turns put it off the top of the paper. About a half turn later the screw was no longer contacting the threads but stayed in position. The other groups were 5 shots in each of the 3 quadrants aiming at the black/orange edge. I am a conservative so I normally do have a problem going to the left. Maybe that's why that grouping seemed to be pulled to the center.
