I stopped by the local tavern tonight for some chicken wings and beer. The bartender is a fellow milsurper as well and,as bartenders will, imparted a tidbit of wisdom upon me......"in the worst case scenario,If you buy a rifle for $300,need the money four years from now, and sell it for $260. It only cost you $10 a year to "rent" it..........Pure genious, even my wife might fall for that one........Larry

Maybe the gun show buddy who sold me the over-priced common Yugo 48A for $300, and offers to buy it back for $250, is offering a decent deal?
I've not used it in about two years, had it almost three. That guy knows how to make money on certain milsurp rifles as well as about anybody you ever met (owned 30 SKS).

Some dealers can spot a milsurper a mile away. I have a FFL buddy that would say "Do me a favor,if you like it,take it home this weekend and give it a cleaning for me".You can see where this lead..Ya gotta remember,no-one held a gun to your head and forced you to pay $300 for your rifle (sorry about the pun,I couldn't resist). :D You probably overpaid the same reason that we all do from time to time.We saw the rifle and..... had to have it.Milsurpititis is a mental illness, sometimes we just can't control ourselves.I have litterally "brown bagged" my lunch to cover a milsurp purchase.Seriously,I really don't consider my milsurps an investment, they are hobbies and hobbies cost money.I personally think you will eventually make your money back on your Yugo. $300 for a m-48b in great shape is a little high, for now,but not too far fetched,at least where I live. Take her out shooting!...........Larry

Back in June I went to my gun club's annual swap meet. I sold an H&R M12, a Mosin Nagant M38, and 2 K-31's. I broke even on the M38, and made money on the other 3. Total profit was around $225 or 31%.

Of course, I turned right around, and spent it on another rifle, which I'm sure will be an even better investments. wink wink nod nod.

Hector,IMHO,It sounds to me like you did ok. If you can own a rifle, enjoy fondle it,shoot it,and sell it years later and come out on top.....you are on the winning team! with the interest rates banks currently give(a joke),just getting your money back when your in a fix is a no lose situation. Remember the name of the post is "just renting it" when you come out ahead (I think all of us that have "a few" milsurps in our safe will,I mean that sincerly) that,my friend, is a plus...PS your secret is safe with us :D .....Larry

Even factoring for inflation I have never lost money on a surplus rifle. Unlike gold, Surplus rifles, ammo, gunpowder, copper, lead and primers hold their value plus some.

Hope your right about never losing! No reasoning with my wife any longer.
I havent sold a firearm in 40 years, hasn't stopped me from buying them
though. I even keep my mistakes and I've made a few. I have a '73 Winnie
that's over 100 yrs. old and I've owned it for nearly half it's life.

I'm 'bout as sick as they come! My wife knows it too.
