Hi all, I'm looking for another 7.92mm rifle. I already have a 98k, but wanted something else that will be a good shooter.

So....my question is, what are the pros and cons of the above choices? Should I hold out for a good VZ or go for a M48?

Any and all opinions and comments are welcome.

Thanks so much!

Greg

gjw,if your looking for a crested vz,your going to be spending a little more money. IMHO,the value on these are going to go up quicker. want a shooter? you can still find yugos in almost new condition. you could also consider my first and favorite 8mm ,the yugo 24/47.it hits what i aim at every time. All three chioces are well built, solid rifles.you could always.......................buy more than one! :D

since you have a K98, I'd go vz.24 if you find one you want, crest or not. Sometimes it seems the vz.24 can be a more specialized collector piece as they seem to be less common these days. You're likely to be wide differences in condition with a vz and an M48 though, favoring the M48. It's kind of a potato/potatoe kind of game.

For similar condition rifles (with nice accurate bores) , You should be able to find a more reasonably priced M 48. Also way easier to find. For some reason I lean toward the look and handling of the bent bolts over the straight bolts. If you don't have a straight bolt yet you may want to handle / work one before you get one. Nothing wrong with them, just a matter of preference. :thumb:

Greg,

Here's a pic of a 24/47, Vz24, and M48:

The 24/47 was from Samco, appears to have been rearsenaled/rebarreled and left in the cosmo until Samco shipped it to me. Its one of their 'excellents' at $249. Barrel is as new.

The Vz24 was from Todd at Family Firearms and Finishes, appears to have been rearsenaled and left in the cosmo. $285 from Todd. Barrel is original, shines, with strong lands, but has a bit of 'debris' in the grooves.

M48 was from Cabela's of all places, looked to be unissued. $265. Barrel is as new.

All in the same price range, and though the Vz24 has the worst bore of the three, for some reason its my favorite of the three. Not sure why.

EDIT: replaced crappy first post.
