Hello gents, local gun shop has some fn hi powers for 599.99. Just wondering if this is a good price. This is what they say about them. " These hi powers are all 1 of 500 sent to Malaysia from the British government for 1952-54. All british SAS operatives began training in Malaysia during this time period and these pistols were intended to be used by them. Each gun shows an "E" prefix." I was wondering if they are worth 599? They seem to be in alright to good condition. I haven't checked out the bores yet. Looked like they have black plastic grips and one has wood grips. Anything I need to look for when buying one? Thanks

Don't know anything about the whole Malaysian contract thing, but in general...
$600 is not a bad price for a Hipower, but I'd want it to be tight, good bore, and functional.
If it's been shot a lot with hot ammo, check slide to frame fit, and barrel to slide fit. I've seen some of these older Hipowers that are sloppy.
Inspect the barrel, the barrel lug broke off my Israeli Hipower during the first magazine.
If these are really that old, they will have the old style internal extractor-many people don't buy these for 'shooters', as the design is a bit more fragile than the later external extractor.

There is a lot of stories around the E-Series HP (have a look at mine if you haven't done yet viewtopic.php?f=58&t=117608)

Apart from that I agree with WRENCH. These old HP's are great (I own several :D ), the E-Series is from the early 50's but for shooting I have bought a newer model.
With regard to the price I cannot give you a recommendation. In the area where I live (Central Europe) you can find HP's in almost new condition for 350 to 450 Euro. For my E-series and other early HP's that I own I have paid around 400 Euro.
