I've been mulling around the different choices available for a Mauser. I decided to get a VZ24 from Todd @ Family Firearms & Finishes. From what I can tell looking at the pics he sent me, it's a scrubbed Romanian contract rifle with a very pretty stock. The blue also looks near perfect. Todd told me it has a good bore as well. I have no doubt that I will be happy with my purchase. I have been looking for ammo on line. It seems that it is getting tougher to find 8mm......Might be time to start looking at some reloading equipment. Anyway, I'll post up some pics when the BBT shows up!

Im sure you will be very happy with it. I bought a 1939 VZ24 about three weeks ago, and its a nice rifle. My rifle was really dirty and the stock was full of cosmoline when I got it, but I hung the stock over the wood burning stove in the work shop and heated it up until the cosmoline started dripping out of it. It looks a lot better now that its cleaned up. I also did a little cold blueing on some parts were the blueing had worn off.

Now im looking for a sling and bayonet for it. Im also searching for a good deal on some ammo for it also.

Looking forward to seeing some pictures of your rifle once you get it.

I got a repro sling from Mountain State Supply and I like mine. I got my bayonet off eBay for $32 shipped. For ammo, you might get lucky and find a local looking to downsize calibers. I got 1080 rounds of Yugo for $190 about a month ago.

Ken

Im looking for a sling for me VZ24. I have seen the slings that Mountain State Supply has, but was wondering how good the quality was ?. can you post a picture of the sling you bought installed on your rifle so I can see how it looks ?.

Here's a picture I had saved. You can see the leather is nice and thick. The sliding adjustment piece is steel I believe and is solid. It's not crappy sheet metal. It seems to have a hard coat of black paint. The metal fittings on the front piece are like that too. The stitching is even, done with heavy thread, and seems solid. I have compared it against pictures of original Czech slings and while the leather on those is more neatly cut (nice rounded corners), I believe the Mountain State Supply sling to be a great deal.

I was able to find a reproduction of the VZ24 sling, and bought it. Its very well made out of very thick leather and good quality metal fitting, and its dark brown in color. It actually looks original to the rifle, and im very happy with it.

Nice looking VZ24 Ken792! Last time I looked, Mountain State was out of the VZ slings. I hope they will get some more as they look nice and was hoping to pick up a couple.

Thanks. I took it out with me to the range on Saturday for the university Rifle and Pistol Club (I just started one) shoot and everyone loved it (they loved all the surplus guns). Unfortunately, someone broke my extractor by loading improperly.

I noticed that too when I was going to buy a batch of slings to have on hand for the guns I have coming in the next few months. I guess we could ask Steve if and when he'll have more of them.
