I inherited a bringback p38 made in mid 1943 at CYQ. It was chrome or nickel plated by the vet but it is all matching..

Anyhow a leather shoulder holster also came with it and I would like to know more about it as I only found a few on the internet.

Brown leather, Very good condition for its age.
Marked

CARL KUNTZE
Penig-SA
1945

I was planning on selling it but seeing as how it likely was captured with the gun I decided to keep it.

Anyone have any info? Below are pictures with the p38 holstered.

I don't know for sure, but judging by the neatness of the markings, I would say it is the maker's stamp. I am sure many small firms had contracts to produce everything in Germany, just like they did here.

Hey Deacon. I have seen a few others like this one.
2 were marked the same as mine and have had reports they were taken from german prisoners or out of german vehicles.

However there are no pictures of this setup that I have found used during the war.
I would have to guess this was some late war officers make or most likely these were made for the american troops wanting a holster to put their new captured handguns in.

Fits my p38 excellent.

I think I agree with blablabla...German military were pretty big on certain things, and their holsters were generally fully flapped, and belt carried often with the Sam Browne style strap. However...special tanker model or pilots holster? Ignore the connotations bringing Tanker Mausers to mind...is it possible?

If I were in a tank or a plane I dont think I would want a shoulder holster to bang around or get caught on things(especially when trying to jump out).

hmm

I think what you’re dealing with is a U.S. made M7 shoulder holster made for American pilots and tankers. They came in two versions, one for the. 38 ca.l revolver and one for a 1911 .45. This on looks like it’s been modified to accept the pistol that’s in it. The US has been deleted if it was taken from a German officer that certainly didn’t want to have US stamped on his gear.

I wonder if thats not it.
These holsters remain a mystery. Decided to keep it with the gun because theres no telling who made it and who had it in Germany.

Thanks for the info Jpelot :)
