To add to the capture stories, though second hand - The father of a friend when I was growing up had a wonderful chess set; all German villagers, like a priest for bishop, postman for knight, etc. His story was that at the end of the war he was in charge of a POW camp full of Germans in Germany. They had NO intention of escape, so a real easy billet. Also the German commander once confided that his most brilliant manuver was getting his entire unit captured w/o losing a man. He admired the Tiger tank, and one birthday morn found one parked, full up and armed in front of his headquarters. That would have been a serious bringback!

A Tiger!!,now that would have been the last word in Milsurp bringback!. "mmmmm lets see 120,000 pounds x wide x long mmm yea, we can do it" "cost you a few bucks though"

Not exactly a Luger capture but fairly interesting. In my great grandma's photo albums were a series of pictures her brother had taken from when he had "liberated" Goerings personal staff car and of him driving it for a few days before he was asked to turn it over. If i can find the album I will post photos.

a friend of our family send me a pretty interesting email a while back, i thought it would be worth posting
Quote:
Enclosed is a picture that I found yesterday in my fathers safe. I didn't know that he had it and he never mentioned it. I didn't know where he had gotten it but I contacted my Aunt Lottie and she said that my Uncle Frank had taken a roll of film from a prisoner and that this picture was in it. Thought I would share it with you.

now, from what i was able to gather via some online research (hooray google  ) the aircraft in the background is Hitlers personal transport, a prototype focke-wulf FW200 V1 "Condor" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Focke-Wulf ... _transport and that specific plane was known by 3 or 4 different designations, 26+00 being the last one, it was destroyed at Berlin Tempelhof Airport in an Allied bombing raid on July 18th 1944. I also think (and would be very glad of proof one way or the other) that the man exiting the plane behind Hitler looks like it MIGHT be Joeseph Goebbels, but i'm no expert lol
