Not sure how helpful I can be, but here are a couple ideas. First, for the .300 savage, how about the 170 grain Barnes X designed for the 30-30? For the .308, how about the Barnes TSX in 165 grain or the 180 if you are stuck on that weight. After killing two large elk with 180 Barnes X bullets, I'm a believer! Complete pass through penetration with excellent wound channels. Both went down promptly. Those killed at about 50 yards with a K31 and an MV of 2600 fps.
Not a fan of the Win power point.

I and my son in law used win 150 PP in .270 for antelope year before last. Both quartering away shots. His about 80 yards and mine about 280 yards. Both bullets blew and failed to exit. Sudden death on antelope, but left me wondering about penetration on larger game. We were using 150 grainers because elk were on the schedule for the following weekend but chose not to use them, opting for Nosler Part instead.
Hope that helps
