Well, the board is either fixed, or it's going to run terribly. Cross your fingers and hope for the best. I'm at my technical limit right now.

Show us your mid-late war Nagoya Type 99's
I was talking to a Type 99 collector about how I find the mid to late war expeediences interesting and how they transfor through the series beginning around series 5. I thought maybe a data base would be a fun and interesting project. Photos would be great but if you can include:
-The series 5-8
- Serial range (exact would be best, but first few will do)
- Bolt handle style, plum, barrel
- Bolt shroud type, knurled, milled, welded
- Chrome? bolt face, bore
- Front band, 2 screw, 3 screw, last ditch
- Lower band, mono pod, non mono pod variation, solid milled
- Rear sight, anti-aircraft sight, non anti-aircraft, fixed
- Cleaning rod, long box and rod, short nut, none
- Stock, finger groove, non finger groove
- Rear sling swivel, two screw, one screw
- Buttplate, cupped, wood

Here's mine:
Series 7 SN 22592
Cupped butt plate, finger grooves in stock
Grooved safety with a cylindrical bolt handle
Chrome lined bore, no AA sights, plain barrel band without provision for monopod, 2 screw front barrel band, short screw in cleaning rod
As a side note this was my very first arisaka that I ended up buying and it came directly from the vet who ground the mum off himself along with a very nice Nagoya made bayonet

Re: Show us your mid-late war Nagoya Type 99's
No photos handy but here's mine:
Nagoya series 7.
Serial 82576.
Full, untouched mum. Rifle is totally matching.
Cylindrical bolt handle.
Neatly welded safety knob.
Blued bolt face / barrel lining.
Probably two-screw front band. The nose cap is drilled for a cleaning rod, however the stock is not drilled at all. No hole drilled for a cleaning rod catch. Needless to say, no rod.
Non-monopod rear band that is solid, with no lightening slot.
Short ladder rear sight.
No finger grooves.
Two-screw rear sling swivel.
Thin, cupped metal butt plate.
Full-length upper hand guard.
This rifle has battle damage, most heavily to the fore stock and hand guard. T E W OKINAWA 6/9/45 is neatly inscribed on the side of the butt stock.

Re: Show us your mid-late war Nagoya Type 99's
My series 5 nagoya.
Number 30541, bolt does not match the rifle, so it could be an earlier one. However the finish of the bolt is similar to the rifle so I am assuming it's been with it awhile.
Plum bolt
The bore is chromed, and I believe the bolt face is as well.
front band is 2 screw missing the front screw.
Lower band has the attachment for the monopod but does not apper to have ever had one.
aircraft rear sight.
short cleaning rod
finger groove stock
2 screw rear swviel
cupped buttplate.
It also has Japanese writing on the stock. The writing near the receiver is a copy of the markings on the receiver that say type 99.
Pictures are a mix of mine and the ones I got from the guy I traded for it.

Re: Show us your mid-late war Nagoya Type 99's
I've got a 1944 Nagoya Arsenal SN 47707 7th Series. I'll have to pull it out to get the particulars on it, I do know it's numbers matching down to the firing pin. It is missing the cleaning rod.

Re: Show us your mid-late war Nagoya Type 99's
Steve some of the rifles shown between series 5 and 8 are what can be called "transitional rifles". These were made during the middle of the war as accessories such as monopods and aa wings were being discarded in the process that eventually created true last ditch rifles following the completion of series 8. Eventually the metal butt plates were removed in favor of wooden ones and the rear sights became fixed. Really late into the Nagoya series (series 11 and 12) you get what is called rope hole stock last ditch rifles where even the sling loops have been eliminated and a hole was drilled through the butt stock so that a single rope would be tied through and used as the sling.

Re: Show us your mid-late war Nagoya Type 99's
Yes, I would best describe it as a slightly cupped buttplate. Another way to keep the stock from expanding and separating at the splice, due to the two piece stocks. My late production Type 38 Carbine had the same style buttplate as well.
