What Kind of Ammunition is This?

Post by Phantom 778 »

This ammunition was passed down to me by my Uncle when he gave me his .303 British Lee-Enfield No. 4 Mk 1. He did not know if this ammunition was .303 British or not. Neither do I. Is this .303 British ammunition or is it something else?

The triangle is the Iraqi factory mark and “190V” is the date of mfg (1957)

POF and Iraq .303 British ammunition is a click, bang, delayed firing ammo. The few Iraq rounds I fired, about 25, left the barrel and bolt very dirty. It left a real black soot. Lots of cleaning to get the rifle clean. I saved a few to keep for the headstamps. I find HXP- Greek .303 ammunition a better choice if you find it for sale at gun shows. Huge batches were dumped onto the US market a few years back and is still seen at shows for sale. This was around 2014-2015. It came in lots of 480 cartridges in thin white boxes. Some tarnished grade B and some like new grade A. This stuff:

These boxes, most of us still have 10 or so cases. Unboxing HXP from CTD. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LmIACtBK_js

The good old days. You still find this at shows. LOOK FOR THE WHITE BOXES.
To old to fight and to old to run, a Jar head will just shoot and be done with you.
