Well, the board is either fixed, or it's going to run terribly. Cross your fingers and hope for the best. I'm at my technical limit right now.

Mosin replica made by Keystone in .22

#1 Post by vonalt » Sun Apr 28, 2019 5:41 pm

Keystone which produces the Chipmunk .22 rifle has just announced a replica of the Mosin Nagant rifle. Evidently, they will be producing a series of .22 riles based on old war horses in the near future and the Mosin is the just first in their series. Retail is going to be $399 for the basic rifle and the deluxe version will be $100 more. Other than the price, it will be a great way to introduce future shooters to the hobby we all enjoy.

Wonder what else they will introduce.

An interesting concept, military surplus " YOUTH GUN". the special edition looks neat but I wonder if they are going to produce an M1 carbine?????
Much better than the BB or pellet version with a plastic stock. Now if they make a 22 caliber Youth M1 USGI carbine they will sell like hot cakes.

There are already M1 carbines in .22lr and I think they are currently in production. Now, a M1 Garand would be nice. Why not just get your kid a Mossberg 44US instead? That's what the GI's trained on. Cheaper than those Comblock .22lr trainers these days and far better made.

Best Regards,

Mark

Both the Chiappa & Citadel have lots of plastic parts and are no where near actual replicas. Both models have a tendency to jam. They are not really mini size, but close to actual size although cheaply made. The Springfield BB carbine is closer to a replica- although the results are not yet in on this one.
Heck, the mini Mosins may beat out the Gletcher M44 CO2 BB rifle that sells for $300 if its all real metal and has actual reproduced Russian markings.

Features of the Youth guns apparently better details and real steel parts.
The KSA 91/30 has a 20″ barrel, precision-machined to ensure the durability and accuracy that is normally reserved for the “big guns”. The action is based on the proven, safe, single-shot Crickett design and has a straight-handled bolt, just like the original Mosins. The sights are also copies of the originals (scaled down, of course) and the walnut stock and barrel even have “proof” stamps and markings. The first 500 pre-orders will come with a custom wooden crate with matching serial numbers, a sling, a certificate of authenticity, selection of your own serial number and more.

I sold a friend an Iver Johnson look-alike M1 Carbine in 22LR and he added a few military type features to it (see photo) plus a sling and it looks great!

Those were made in Germany by Erma Werke in the mid 1980s and actually were nice guns. Not like the 30 cal, soft receiver, garbage Iver Johnsons. They worked. A total different animal. However, No longer made and .22 mags are had to find for the German .22 carbine. Finding one of those at $200-300 with two magazines and in good shape would be a nice find.

I don't think they are planning any semi-autos, guys. That Mosin is a single shot and everything else they produce is a single shot as well.

Real SMLE trainers in .22lr run about $600. Norinco used to make a .22lr 98K.

Best Regards,

Mark

The current.22lr M1 carbine is built by Citadel or Cimmaron I think. It is semi-auto.

Definitely priced too high, but certainly interesting.

One can buy a Polish WZ 48 training rifle for less money and get a much better rifle in turn.

I thought people were overcharging for those...I mean anything over $200 seems high.
