Interesting, too large to take to a gun show. Some may want to see this item:

Nice info, thanks!

TRIVIA: Which US military issue rifle was made “as issued” with a counter-bore already in place and cut into the bore?

Lyman Bore Scope -
Okay – I can see a need and use for one of these at a gun show. Just someone to set up one with a ‘Look at a bore before you buy’ with a price to be appropriate. But a problem that I see may have to be over come is...A single person at a bench is not going to let one take his firearm to this fellow with the set-up. Now maybe the fellow with this set-up can have his on wheels and operated with a car battery and a little AC converter to be able to go to the seller of the firearm and have that ‘Look-see’. I can see this as a possible solution and a useful service.

Here’s the photos taken of the bore on a Trapdoor using one of those LED 5.5mm endoscopes that are sold on the likes of eBay and Amazon, usually around $15. The 1st ones plugged into the USB port on laptop, but I had an old Google Nexus tablet (seen them used $25!) that was sitting unused and it is now dedicated to the LED borescope and it stays ready for use on my gun bench.

They come with a 5' or longer cable that plugs into the USB port of your computer or laptop ... or nowadays into your cell/smart phone. There is a CD included with the laptop one that you need to load, to allow for video or screen capture, whereas the iPhone type uses an app.

The focal length is a good inch or so and if placed any closer, the image is distorted. For best use, a white cloth cleaning patch or tuft of cotton ball is put down into the bore, which works well to allow the adjustable lights on the endoscope to brighten the image for best viewing.

I thought it was pretty cool!

A few years ago I bought 2 rifles at a gunshow in South Dakota while I lived there. The rifles were a beautiful b barrel Finn m91 and a vet bring back duffel cut Carcano. Some guy at one of the tables showed me the bores of my rifles with a similar camera. The detail was astonishing. This was $100 camera if I remember correctly.
