Well, the board is either fixed, or it's going to run terribly. Cross your fingers and hope for the best. I'm at my technical limit right now.

Shooting in the rain.

#1 Post by Rapidrob » Sat Jun 16, 2018 2:49 pm

Our monsoon season started today. A steady rain with light winds. At the range we were practicing for this months 300 yard Rapid Fire match. The ground at the impact berm was damp. As we fired at the target, the shots that missed struck the damp earth and a cloud of steam, yes steam, was generated as the bullets energy was transfered into the ground. The dirt was not yet saturated with rain and turned into mud as yet. None of us had ever seen this happen before. It was interesting to witness.

I've seen that on one or two occasions. I always assumed it was very fine particles of water atomized to an aerosol by the impact, but it could be steam I guess. I caught a ricochet from the bank once it was too hot to hold, hot enough to scorch a shirt & all the lead had gone it was just a mangled jacket.
