Well, the board is either fixed, or it's going to run terribly. Cross your fingers and hope for the best. I'm at my technical limit right now.

AR build/scope mount question??

#1 Post by BigMau » Sun Jun 11, 2017 7:54 pm

While this forum was down, I constructed this M4 style AR-15 from parts...

Well... I was able to get some Anderson and PSA parts at some good $$$. My rifle looks like this Anderson Optic-Ready AR (upper, lower, M4 16" barrel and high rise gas block) with a PSA bolt, charging handle, buffer and M4 rear stock. Got a nice deal on USGI double heat shield fore grips. Any suggestion for mounting this Swift 4x32 668M scope?? What type of rings/mounts??

Thanks for the advise Candyman!

I have a set of Chinese copy Magpul MBUS sights on this rifle and it's shooting about a foot high at 25 yrds. All three shots go into one hole!! just worried that the heat form the gas block will melt the front sight?? Kinda like the quick-detach option for the scope.

The Chinese Magpul knockoffs will melt.
The rail on most of the gas blocks on the optic-ready carbines is lower then the rail of the receiver. This is most likely why you are shooting high. There are sights made for gas blocks.

Yes...

The rear sight is higher and I heard the plastic knock offs will melt  I guess a scope or red-dot is the best bet!!

Hey samsplacci, Thanks for the tip!! That Burris PEPR mount seems nice!! I got a sweet deal on a Swift 4x32 668M scope. Seems like a nice scope for my budget build.

If you can save up for the PEPR mount, I'd highly recommend it. Mine has the QD locking pins.

I found the only rings high enough for me were the Warmes Ultra High? IMHO, with a flat top. I got ripped off at a local gunshow buying the fake Magpuls sights.

BigMau, I'm with samplacci on this one, look for the PEPR one inch mount/rings. Optics planet has pretty good prices and it's a great set-up. I'm mounting one on my PSA AR-10 rifle I recently purchased to hold my Springfield 6x42 scope. My brother used that mount on his Sig 716 and it's the cats meow!

I paid $27 shipped on sale for this... http://www.cabelas.com/product/WEAVER-S ... tsrc%3DAFF

I bought 2. They work great, look great, and can be removed and reinstalled while maintaining zero.
