Rebuilt Garand

I recently examined an arsenal rebuilt Garand. The serial number dates it to January, 1943. The barrel is dated 1949. What I found unusual was the finish on the bolt, It's an IHC, but with a silvery finish, instead of blue or black. It's not shiny nor polished looking, just dull, silvery grey. Is this common or an oddball?

Bolts are not supposed to be blued. There is a wide range of parkerizing colors depending on numerous factors. If it is parkerized, I would say it is normal.
Here is a Springfield bolt that fits your description.

Thanks. The owner was wondering if he had some kind of collectors item. Guess it's just a really nice post-WWII rebuild.
The barrel is like new.

I tightened up the splines for the gas cylinder for the owner. It shoots a LOT better after that.
