Well, the board is either fixed, or it's going to run terribly. Cross your fingers and hope for the best. I'm at my technical limit right now.

M1 Garand and me, both from 1955

#1 Post by nothernug » Sun Feb 09, 2020 10:11 pm

This isn't a new acquisition but, since my previous posts here are all gone I feel free to offer them up again so here goes.

The top image shows how it came. The next photo shows what I found after cleaning. Needless to say, I was quite thrilled. I looked up the numbers to find it was made in 1955, the same year I was born. I think it's pretty safe to say this will outlive me. As for the specs from CMP, I got better thaan I paid for. It is supposed to be service grade but the numbers are darn close to the next grade up! Needless to say, in looks and mechanical condition, I drew a nice one! The bore is perfect too.
As an aside, the sling used is just an old European leather sling. I know have a repro 1907 sling on it. I know a web sling would be more 'correct' for a rifle of the 1950s but, I just think the 1907 looks a lot better and offers more opportunities for use (if I can just remember how to work it!) so I use it.

Very nice.
In 1998 I got my "one in a lifetime M1". Well that was the policy until 1999.
Mine was a 2,46 million Springfield service grade that had been through Toole in the month and year I was born.
It shoots far better than I am capable of doing.

Alas poor Ghoulardi, I knew him! RIP Ernie Anderson. When I left Ohio, Ghoulardi was, and remains, the only thing I miss about the place. ;)

Thanks for the nice comments about the rifle guys!

Love the stock! Kind of like when the Finns got their hand on a Mosin and replaced the stock with flame beech.
