Bought an interesting pawn shop pistol recently. It's a Belgian copy of a Smith made ~1890's. Only markings are '44 winchester cartridge' on the barrel, and beneath the grips TT&C in a box, NW, JP, and a '5'. The interesting thing was the expedients to keep the old girl going. The recoil shield was peened to bring the hand back over, the well for the trigger spring peened to tighten it up and a new tip brazed on the hand, But no screws boogered! The cylinder gap could be measured with a ruler, not a guage! Cleaning and tighting screws got the timing 'fair' so I fire blanks at cowboy reenactments, never live. It beats a single action for fun factor.

With it listed as 44 Winchester, I am assuming it is .44-40, or is it a .44 Special?
I DO like it though!

For blanks I've been using 44-40 cases, sized, primed, and filled with 30 grains of 3fg. I pack cream of wheat on top of that, then put a drop of wood glue to seal it. It comes out as a fairly fine spray and a nice crack.

Evidently european copyright law as slack. It is a contemporary copy. After ~100 years it's pretty smooth. I don't trust lockup though so blanks are it's diet
