Back about ten years ago I purchased a NIB Arsenal /26\ SKS for $250. Probably a bit more than the going rate at the time but in my neck of the woods you just never see a NIB Chinese SKS so I didn't mind paying a little extra.

Classic Firearms has some well-used but fully functional Chinese SKS rifles for around $350 I believe still in stock some others like on GunBrokers are running twice that much.

My 1965 Arsenal /26\.

Thank you for your reply! The reason I ask is because I recently purchased a NIB Chinese SKS from Factory /26\ 1980? (Serial number in the 24 millions with a bakelite handguard) for $240. Found it at my local Pawn Shop. Was this a good deal then?
I have also seen the Classic Firearms batch. After paying $240 for a brand new one, it seems strange to pay $350 for a rougher condition example. But I guess that is just the world of surplus. I guess I just got lucky?

Peterson's Standard Catalog of MILITARY SURPLUS 9th edition, 2020, on page 61 lists the Chinese SKS, not Norinco marked at Exc 500, VG 400, Good 300 and fair 200. So yours NIB would be around $500-550 at book retail. So you got a Half price deal of the day

:shhh:
The word, "Bandit" comes to mind. :text-bravo:

:violin: This should make you feel like you got a deal....

Great score, you just don't see those kinds of prices on new SKS rifles and finding a NIB one is pretty much like finding a unicorn these days. I see your /26\ rifle has the French tickler hand guard which started appearing around 1979 and thereafter. Your rifle is probably one of the last short collar threaded barrels before they started pinning the barrels on.

You can find some information on various parts of your Chinese SKS and how to date it here http://www.yooperj.com/SKS.htm
