Well, the board is either fixed, or it's going to run terribly. Cross your fingers and hope for the best. I'm at my technical limit right now.

WASR 10

#1 Post by ffuries » Mon Apr 29, 2019 1:26 pm

My WASR 10 arrived and came home with me, not a real fan of the blonde stock though. Zero cant to the sights, magazine wobble is negligible to the point of being equal to my AR-15. Either Century has gotten their QC/QA process figured out or I just got damn lucky. Pretty impressed overall with the fitment, bayonet lug needs a little work as the bayonet I have starts to engage it, but doesn't go on all the way to lock it. Based on the SN it was manufactured in 2018.

Need to get a sling and cleaning rod for it. Why Century doesn't include them anymore is beyond me. So question is.......Are all AK cleaning rods created equal to the point of being interchangeable?

Guess if anyone has a cleaning rod and sling they don't need and are willing to donate let me know.

Here's a quick picture of her, have two new couches coming in and CINC Household is wanting to move things around in the livingroom before they get delivered. So I can't play around with it right now.

I stripped the wood on my WASR 10 years ago and stained a darker color. Donate?? I am not a democrat but you can find cleaning rods and slings for these fairly easy.

Go shooting and let us know how she does. They may be ugly but they are dependable and fun to shoot.

Came with the Century RAK1 trigger group. Supposed to be smoother and have no trigger slap, but I have no experience with them.

Oh, that’s good to know! My brother’s WASR is almost unshootable, Just a few mags and it feels like you’ve caught a baseball with your bare hand ... and not a clean catch either ... ouchy mama!

Here's a quick shot down the sight line. Nothing like the horror stories I've seen and read about over the years.

As to the blonde wood, stain is a great way to change it up inexpensivly.
Centerfire systems has new laminated stock sets never on a gun from 39.95 - 49.95. The higher price includes the gas tube.
Check the regs, i have not been following 922r fegs for quite some time.

I've thought about getting a buttstock with the cleaning kit trapdoor and refinishing it. The more I deal with this rifle, the more the blonde stock grows on me. So I might take the replacement buttstock and refinish it to closely match what's on it now. Besides with use the stock will start taking on a life of it's own and start to darken with oil, grim, and sweat. Which would be appropriate for an AKM style rifle.

It’s good to see better products coming out of CIA. I know about 10 years ago, my WASR has canted sights which required me to file down the barrel/pin area in order to straighten it out. I am not a fan of the blonde either. I bought some good alcohol based stain (burnt umber) which gave it a dark red look, then used gold colored shellack to give it that orange/red color. They have that Russian Red look. Some folks like the Rit Dye, to each their own. I prefer the alcohol based as it penetrates deep into wood. Just make sure you use a dye/stain before you rub it down with boiled linseed. 😀

Cleaning rod and sling installed. Will be getting different furniture for it, in a traditional color along with the trapdoor in the buttstock. Already looking better and complete. Might change out the pistol grip also. I'll keep the original furniture as is and it'll be sold with the rifle as a packaged deal when I get too old to play with them or kick the bucket, whichever comes first.
