The term "matching " is subjective and depends on what company you are talking to. If you have a laminated M38 all EP'ed, that would be matching and correct for the gun. If the guns are all EP'ed that would be matching as well to some or even a restamped "lineout" are called matching.
All my guns are hand picked by me, we rarely buy anything in bulk. The M44's we list as matching will be all stamped matching. Now I will take a gun if it is a hard to find gun if numbers are not matching (1943's, M/O's,DDR's,XO's) but will list them as such. We also run a couple patches down the bores to see condition if I can't see them at the time of purchase. If they are not good, they go back (don't want to be the crappy bore guy) and I also check headspace on all guns in the shop. All of this takes a lot of time and is why our guns cost a little more but we (and a lot our customers) think it is worth it. Instead of the best of 5 hand pick, you get the best out of 100 or more.
M44's are priced $190 and up depending on condition and rarity.
