I went to the Boeing Museum of Flight (http://www.museumofflight.org/) in Seattle last night and watched the landing live. They had several of the scientists that actually built the Curiosity rover there talking about its development. That was really interesting. There were a lot of people there. It was nice to see such a large, diverse crowd having a strong interest in science & technology. The whole place was cheering like mad when it safely landed. It was a good time. :D

The Museum of Flight is an awesome place. I am definitely going to have to go back and check out the rest of it.

so cool!!!!! ive been there twice!!! have you checked out the flying heritage museum aswell i think its in everett?

No, I haven't been there, but I will need to check it out! http://www.flyingheritage.com :thumb:

I stayed up and watched the live feed online. It was very exciting and I'm overjoyed that Curiosity landed perfectly. I am very much looking forward to all of the scientific knowledge that this new probe will provide.
Here's a couple of the first pictures it sent minutes after it landed:

Here's a link to a low-rez video of it's descent on the Martian surface:

Took the family on a little summer road trip to Oregon and Washington last week and stopped at the Boeing Museum of Flight, Flying Heritage Collection, Boeing Factory Tour, and the Tillamook Air Museum in Oregon.

Great places to check out if you are ever in the Pacific Northwest

I stayed up to watch the landing on TV, very impressive! Got that goosepimply feeling I always get when seeing such events. Amazing that such things can be done and a much better use of money than propping up regimes that hate us.

Here's hoping for a long and successful mission!

I thought the picture the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter's Hi-RISE camera took of Curiosity descending with the parachute deployed was incredibly cool. The amount of planning that went into taking and setting up that picture just mystifies me!!!

My early years were spent at Edwards where I heard lots of phantom thunder, saw lots of amazing aircraft and started watching the sky. I've continued to watch NASA with every opportunity that I get. Watching Neil Armstrong step on the Moon was a highlight. However, recently, I've enjoyed the 3D photos sent back by the twin rovers Spirit and Opportunity, which have far outlived their anticipated lives. Opportunity is still active, 3,024 days after being deployed. Spirit appears to have lost power after becoming mired in the soil and not being able to angle its solar panels toward the sun after 2,210 days of operation. These rovers were only expected to last 90 days. The color and 3d images they send back are fantastic. The stop action video of a dust devil passing by is unmatched. I hope to see more of the same from Curiosity.

I will admit that I thought the landing sequence was quite complex and that I didn't expect the landing to be a success. I believe in the KISS principle and could see too many possibilities for this landing to fail. I'm pleased that I was wrong and look forward to seeing everything that this rover encounters.
