I read long ago that people are using "Hot Stuff" glue to fill very deep gouges because it will pick up stains and/or linseed oil.

Is there any truth to this? Or what do you use besides the tried and true steam method?

This gouge is really deep though. :(

there are many troubles when trying to use CA glues to fill gaps. If you can't steam them out try acraglas with coloring instead. I recommend against CA glues for this purpose.

The one time i used CA glue i swear it dried before it hit the wood. And it was the consistency of water. Do not recommend, frankly I'm not sure what i would even use it on. I happened upon the bottle one day and had to use pliers to unscrew it, which actually sheared off the lid from the bottle since they were fused together #-o

Deep gouges I just use sawdust and acraglas. Depending on what arsenal made the stock you could make plugs and still play it off as arsenal correct repairs.
