I just bought a custom model 70 pre 64 serial number 41,754 in 22 hornet and I would like to pick up a scope mount with rings for a balvar 6 - 24 power that i already have. It came with a one piece Redfield with the front ring that twists, and as I was trying to take it off, the front mounting screw stripped so I had to drill it out and the mount was ruined. The rear bridge has been tapped for an additional hole and the redfield mount that was used did not utilize it. The additional hole appears to be parallel with the rest of the screws.and as far as I can tell center to center is about .556 which is less than 128th of an inch shy of 9/16, i don't know how much wiggle room i would have if the mount holes don't align with the receiver holes exactly, so, should I just use the three factory holes and go with a one piece mount or should I chance using the additional hole with a two piece. I don't want a cheap set up and would like a set of rings that would give additional elevation for the newer Balvar if needed but it is not absolutey necessary because i probably won't be going beyond 200 yards with the 22 hornet
