Well, the board is either fixed, or it's going to run terribly. Cross your fingers and hope for the best. I'm at my technical limit right now.

M2 Ammo ?

#1 Post by Kurt » Mon Mar 19, 2018 6:37 am

Hello. I have some M2 30-06 that are made from "recovered parts". The headstamp is "69" I am assuming 1969 and wonder would this brass be recovered and therefore reloaded 1969 ammo? When they say "recovered parts" or maybe it said "recovered components"? to save me going back downstairs, what are they saying? I guess I'll ask also since I don't own a Garand should I sell this or shoot it in my Rem700? If sell is it worth $12. per box? Thanks very much.

In all honesty, I would want a lot more information before I used it in any rifle.

A WV company (TALON) demilled a lot of USGI ammo and then assembled cartridges with new primers and powder.

Reviews of their ammo did not reveal any problems.

I took some pictures of the ammo I was referring to. The top box is the "recovered" ammunition. Headstamped LC 69. Thank you.

The LC would be Lake City arsenal and is good reloadable brass. If its loaded to M2 standards then it should be safe to shoot in any 30-06 in good working order. If its reloaded by Talon or original LC 69 it will be non-corrosive. Have some fun with the 700 at the range.

Hammerdown. Thank you! I wanted to make sure it was safe useable ammo. I think I'm going to sell it. I went to the range Monday and shot some 30-06 and my old stiff shoulders suffered for it. If I had a 1917 or a Garand I would shoot it but ....... well who knows maybe I 'll look around?

I would also shoot it.
I would recommend getting both a 1917 and a Garand, they are my favorite rifles to shoot

i just bought 400 rounds 2 weeks ago @ $11.00 per box. shot some this past week to check for accuracy compared to other "ball" ammo . i shot it out of a "scary accurate" 1955 mod. 70 bull bbl. the talon ammo shot 3 in. seller&bellot shot 1.375 and hornady m-1 garand match shot 3/4. all at 100 yds. this was only a quick test; 5 shots each. but i was curious as to the accuracy. next trip to the range; i'll take the garand. if still poor accuracy from the talon ammo; i think i will convert it to "mexican match". at least try 20 or so rounds before going to the trouble doing it all. i hate in accurate ammo. feel like i made a bad purchase and won't be happy till i correct the issue (if i can).
