Well, the board is either fixed, or it's going to run terribly. Cross your fingers and hope for the best. I'm at my technical limit right now.

M904/39 Portuguese Mauser

#1 Post by vandle » Sat Jul 29, 2017 6:54 pm

I had this posted in the "old' forum but thought I drag it out as nothing has been posted current on this unusual "mauser"

This rifle is unusual as it was manufactured at DWM in Germany but had a split bridge receiver and bolt design like the Mannlichers but retained the Mauser Stripper clip and staggered box magazine system. These were initially chambered in 6.5 but rechambered to 8mm in the late 30s.
Easiest way to tell the differences between the 6.5 to the 8mm is the ears added to the front sight and vent drilled on the left hand side of the receiver when they were refurbished. The overall length was reduced to a short rifle length

I have one in my collection and it is an interesting rifle. The stories about the bolt are true and you had better know how to put it back together.
Being a left hand shooter for some reason the rifle kicks the tar out of my face and shoulder. No other 8mm does that.
I'd love to have one in the original 6.5 mm at it was a powerful cartridge and would be a great long range shooter.
