I bought my first Yugo M57 today and cleaned all the cosmoline out. After shooting, I noticed that there were a lot of brass flakes in the ejection port and the shell casings were scratched. I was using Wolf 7.62x25 non-corrosive ammo. Is this a normal issue for these guns or this ammo? Or is this a sign that a gunsmith is in my future?

Sorry for the blurry photos. I'm not a photographer. I don't even pretend to be one on the weekends.

Which ammo did you use ? I say that because I have a CZ52 and and a M57, I Perry spin test the ammo before I shoot. Some milsurp 7.62x25 ( and starline ) is so out of spec I would be concerned about it's use even in my M57. My advice would be to test some ammo of known good ( S&B ) against what you used. If there is no significant difference then you maybe got a poorly reamed chamber.

Check cartridges that have been fired. Is the extractor chewing up the back edge /groove of the case? Compare the back of that Wolf cartridge to a military case,----- is the extractor groove cut deep or too shallow? Is the extractor on the pistol chipped or otherwise damaged? On Yugo military cases you will get red paint from the primer seal in the chamber. I s that primer seal or actual chips of brass from an expended case? Maybe Wolf uses some kind of gold sealer on its primers????? I have found Prvi a better ammo.

Thanks,

Can't tell for certain from the photos, but the "brass flakes" appear to be not brass at all, but smokeless powder, either without the usual graphite coating or with the coating burned off. Smokeless powder is actually sort of a green-yellow; it's only the graphite coating that makes it the familiar grey color.
As to the scratches on the brass, assuming they're longitudinal and your chamber has no visible burrs, they're coming from the steel parts of the feed system, somewhere from magazine lips to chamber.
Try marking a few rounds on the rim, and loading those in the magazine with the mark at the 12 o'clock position. Thumb them out of the mag in the same way they would be fed, and compare the scratches. If they are the same, then the undersides of your mag feedlips need smoothing out.
If the mag isn't causing the scratches, the next most likely culprit is the feed rails that are part of the trigger group. Those are often quite rough. Some more experimentation with marked cases oriented at 12 o'clock will show you whether it's the right or left side (or both, or neither).
Work through the feeding, extraction and ejection portions of the cycle in this way and you'll find the culprit. Once you do, a bit of work with 400 grit wet or dry sandpaper will smooth that out. Don't overdo it, just smooth it.

Extractor details are shown in this source on T 33( not M57 but close) take down photos and instructions here:

http://www.alpharubicon.com/leo/tokarev213.htm

Wolf spring Tokerav kits $12; SEE

http://www.gunsprings.com/index.cfm?pag ... D=1&mID=68

If you have two pistols switch out the recoil spring assy, a new spring in a T33 really makes a different. The springs should be the same, but the kit does not have some of the odd springs for the M 57. I have no idea how hard it will be to get that pin out of the bend on the Recoil assy on a M57   then get it back in around the spring and ping it down flat so it stays. Hence, I would just get a dufferent, but newer M57 recoil spring total assy. I collect by crest type. See old post:
viewtopic.php?f=55&t=97734&hilit=+m57+crest+type

If you should have any different unposted crest types, please post a photo of it in the above link. Thanks
