I was looking at some 8mm ammo online and noticed some are listed as non-WWII dimensions. What does that mean?

Got the link, were they reloads?  mauser, lebel, steyr ????

8mm Mauser read this https://thefiringline.com/forums/archiv ... 51163.html

Is it this Romanian garbage:   :hand: :hand: :snooty: :snooty:
http://www.sportsmansguide.com/product/ ... ?a=1741208

If it has a green seal then read this about 8mm Mauser out of specification garbage ammo IT DOES NOT CHAMBER IN MOST SURPLUS RIFLES:
AVOID THIS JUNK SG should throw this out. Do not get this ammo. GARBAGE

If you are looking for 8mm Mauser ammo generally avoid steel case Lacquered cartridges. Brass expands better and can be reloaded. Sure fire 8mm Mauser at a reasonable price is blue box, boxer primed, brass case & reloadable Prvi. Sure fire quality FMJ at around $14-18 per box.

A note about green sealed 8mm Mauser in the green box:

Wish I had read this before I bought a bunch of rounds. For everyone's information SG is still selling this stuff I tried to chamber it and it and the bolt wont close. After I called the customers service at SG they decided they would allow me to return it. They also told me that 8x57 JS is not 8 mm mauser and it will not work in rifles chambered in 8mm mauser.

"non-WWII dimensions" = a sucker is born every hour   :violin: :violin: :violin:

Use ammo seek to find Prvi( choose wisely):

All most all of the information contained in the " firing line " link is incorrect . If incorrect info keeps being posted it will never go away .

If it is marked 8x57mm JS than it is indeed 8mm Mauser. If it dies not fit the chamber the ammo is in fact defective.

This seems to be an interesting debate between Gewehr98 and JamesK with some input from Steven Mace& John Duarte.

Slowbob, please, can you copy and paste posts from that link and highlight incorrect info and then post correct info as a comment/correction as fact or opinion in a third different color :thumb: so others can see whats incorrect. What post are generally wrong? a line by line correction on the main posts would be fantastic.

This seems to be accurate info, but not sure on 8mm

Most people at gun show that got a box of this stuff had bolt no close issues with it on Turk mausers, vz 24, Yugo m48 and k98 RCs. Does anyone have a rifle, or found a surplus rifle where this Romanian ammo actually chambers and fires, some newer hunting rifles in 8mm ??????? It's always in that green box, some originally came from SOG and was for resale, but they stopped selling it. The SG reviews suggest it works in some rifles, so maybe it was a quality control issue with a high percentage of that green box Romanian ammo all bad news when it first appeared. I have, as well as others, just avoided it. Its easy just to get Prvi :better quality in brass and ammo, and it's reloadable 8 mm mauser that has fit all of my mausers.
You still see That Romanian green box 8mm for sale at shows sometimes, but it appears to be a gamble on non reloadable ammo. To fit or not to fit , that is the question....
We still do not know what ammo Kelley is actually talking about , :text-feedback:
Kelly can you please post a link?

Bought two of those green box Romanian 8mm to try. No go. I have an M24/52c and the bolt closed about 90% and jammed. I gave that crap to a guy at the range to try on one of his rifles.

A 100% proof positive test would be a Wilson Case Gauge die or the like. If the ammo passes, its the rifles. If not than the case shoulder it too far forward or the neck is too long.

For the Green SG ammo , the shoulder is too far forward . If you resize the case it will fit . I have no seen it fit any rifle correctly as sold .
