I kinda feel like I got stung on that batch of light ball on clips from 1946, accuracy wise so now I'm leary of of the same vintage.

I have been getting my 7.62 X 54 from ammoman.com and the price to your front door is a few bucks cheaper. More for the ammo but no shipping cost.

Nice, this stuff is the reason my M-39's all have "D" stamped on the barrel right?

VinnAY, Sorry to hear about your experience with the stripper-clipped light ball .. have a tin of 300 myself I have not shot so I suppose I will find out the hard way, too.

Certainly not recommending the suddenly-available-from-who-knows-where-Rusky HB, but cautious/curious about where all this old 7.62x54r is coming from ! (??)

Thanks !

Thanks for posting this.

Ive been looking for some heavy ammo to try in my M44 (it keyholes with normal 148-grain light-ball stuff).

Note on what you say about the Heavy Ball accuracy: I have a '44 M44 that I temporarily affixed an S & K mount (rear sight) on it with an inexpensive LER 3x -7x and was floored at the accuracy at 110 yards at an outdoor range with Heavy Ball (Bulgarian '55). I certainly need more practice, and HB in an M44 is truly punishing but I had no idea that that combo was truly meant to be !

Good Luck Clifford on that Rusky HB in your M44 !

Thanks, Mark

I got it delivered to me Friday.
A wooden crate, inside are two rectangular sheet-metal sealed boxes. They look to be galvanized sheet metal , sealed edges with lead solder?
Anyways, It is definitely yellow-tip. Copper-washed steel case. Headstamp is hard to see, maybe 188 or 18B ? Also an unusual looking 'L' or 'r' character opposite the numbers on the Headstamp.
A few paper slips inside the boxes, some sort of inspector's note? One hand-written. But I can't read the language.

Factory 188 - r code for 1952.

I bought a can as well, ammo looks great. Should've bought two.

Shoots good out of my M44. My m44 has bullets tumble/keyhole when shooting light ball; this heavy ball ammo fixed that problem, no tumbling. Accuracy was, well, Mil-surplus like accuracy that could be as much to do with my M44 as the ammo itself. I didn't test it in my other (full length) Mosins, so I can't make a direct comparison of this Heavy ball vs the usual light ball ammo.

One drawback: I was having a serious sticky-bolt problem with this ammo. Some rounds were fine, some required moderate force to extract, some got stuck and I had to hit the bolt handle with a block of wood to open.
