Well, the board is either fixed, or it's going to run terribly. Cross your fingers and hope for the best. I'm at my technical limit right now.

Austro Hungarian bayonet Werndl M.1867/73

#1 Post by M67 » Wed Nov 07, 2018 1:03 pm

My the best Werndl bayonet, the FAH is probably i "Friedrich Herder Abr.Sn.".Type Werndl M.1867/73 means that it was shortened.
Markings on it:
- Army Unit mark - 9. Lst (Landsturm Battalion)
- F.A.H ( Friedrich Herder Abraham Sohn- Solingen or Friedrich Herder- Abraham Son)
- Austro Hungarian eagle k.u.k acceptance control mark GF .

This bayonet (and rifle Werndl too of course) was in the second line troops equipment. Landsturm was the third call, the older military, who were no longer serving in the regular army and in reserve teritorial unit - Landwehr Infantry regiments. They guarded military installations in the background of the front and important civilian objects, such as railways, bridges, etc. Only in the later period of the war did they fought on the front line and they proved to be very good.

And thanks for your comments. It is nice that someone shows some interest and asks questions regarding the background of the bayonet and his rule in the Great war. Especially if the object is an actual finding in the rear area or combat zone rather than a purchase (internet).

True. Werndl11 mm one shot rifle and correct bayonet. Old M67 (ha-ha, what a name) bayonet shortened and refurbished in model M67/73 type. Very nice photo with old Landsturm soldier with old werndl ammo pouch on the belt.
