Well, the board is either fixed, or it's going to run terribly. Cross your fingers and hope for the best. I'm at my technical limit right now.

NM MILSURP Snap Shooting match for May

#1 Post by Rapidrob » Sat May 04, 2019 4:42 pm

We practiced doing "Snap-Shooting" today at 50 and 100yards. While 50 yards is very doable,100 is not.

Shooting must be done in no longer than THREE Seconds. No more. Mount,Point,Fire.

We found 75 yards is ideal.

So,we will have a "squad" of bad guys set to 50,62,70 and 75 yards as a dispersed column.

You will fire five (5) shots at each target(20 total rounds for the match). The order "Now" will be given and you have one second to mount the rifle,2 seconds to fire the rifle at the target. Anyone taking longer than three seconds will be dismissed from the match.

All of us who tried it today did very well and it is fun!

Please bring any military issue Center-Fire rifle and ammo you know will GO OFF! No hang fire/Dud ammo will be allowed.

All shooters will start with a loaded rifle/carbine from the waist ready and raise the rifle to bare on target and fire.

You are pointing the rifle like a shotgun shooting birds.

I did find a rifle such as an Enfield is hard to shoot due to the protection Ears next to the front sight.

Mosins did well.Mausers did well. AK's not so well. Hooded front sights seem to have a slight advantage.Open sights and a straight barrel seem to do very well pointing.

There will be no time limit between shots,so you are not blazing away.

We found three seconds worked out very well. 4/5 hits were common at 75 yards.

Bolt and semi-autos are OK to use.

We will practice from now to the match.

Sounds like a lot of fun - would like to see some pics from the match (or practices) if you get the chance.

Sounds great, will be there for sure! Move that squad closer (25 to 40 yards) and you have a great handgun match (hit all four in six seconds?)
