Well, the board is either fixed, or it's going to run terribly. Cross your fingers and hope for the best. I'm at my technical limit right now.

.25-45 Sharps

#1 Post by Hammerdown » Mon Jun 26, 2017 8:28 pm

.25-45 Sharps anybody have one in an AR rifle. How does it compare to a 6.5 Grendel or a 6x45mm? Powerful enough for Whitetail at 300yds?

I don't have a .25-45 personally but my dad has built two (he's a big fan of quarter bores). It hits pretty hard, definitely enough for whitetail at 300 yds. At longer ranges, the Grendel will come out on top but it's still a great round. If you handload you can make your own brass out of 223, plus the only difference between a 25-45 and a 556 AR is the barrel, meaning switching calibers is really easy. I'd recommend building one if you're on the fence.

Thanks gabe, the fact that I could build an upper with the barrel being the only caliber specific part and just switch it out with a 5.56 upper and load up the same mags is what got me interested in the .25-45 Sharps.
