Found some surplus 8mm.

So, hunting the same place I scored the Swede ammo from... I nabbed some of the 8mm in the case. I first thought it all Turkish because cupro-nickel jacketed... While I wasn't wrong about the Turk ammo... There was also Egyptian. Bought some of each.

For starters, I know it's berdan primed corrosive, and lacquer sealed on the primers. Turk is black, Egyptian is purple ish. I've never seen Egyptian in the flesh, and haven't heard anyone talk about it for several years.

The Turkish I know is known for being stout loads.
I think I'm gonna save a clip of each for simple history sake. The ammo on clips is a little pricey for Milsurp, but 8mm is currently sold out on my favorite site. So not complaining. I may do the same thing, and clean the rest out on payday. Because I can. Sure wish that Rommy surplus was still around though.

What can be said for the Egyptian ammo? I know it came in years and years ago plenty cheap in quantity. Didn't have anything that ate it back then.

Pics for viewing pleasure.

The Egyptian 8mm is 198gr FMJBT vs the Turk 154gr FMJ FB. Some have reported duds in their Egyptian 8mm these days but it was good for me in the 1980s.

Most of the Egyptian ammo I had shot fine. My ammo was mostly the same.headstamp as the stuff in you're picture.

The Egyptian is 1957. I have found it to be pretty accurate...when it doesn't go click...bang. And that's a 50-50 deal.

Turk is not stout,it's loaded to real German specs. The rest of the worlds ammo is weaker for some reason.
Both ammo's you mention are corrosive.
Both shoot well at long range.

My experience - I began with some of the case of 50's Yugo pulling bullets, and then reloading the powder, due to considerable variations in powder loads from round to round. The Turk ammo was even worse. When I got a bunch of Egyptian ammo, I started off doing the same, but quickly stopped, as the powder charges were just about as consistent as my handloads! Shoots pretty good too, when I get a chance to shoot.

I found the Turkish ammo to be pretty accurate when I was shooting 8mm. Really hard on the shoulder, but accurate. I like it in my 98/22 but I wear a shoulder pad these days.

I bought a couple hundred rounds of the Egyptian 5 years ago, for 30 cents a round. It was junk, about 1/3 duds and most of the rest was click-bang. The Turk, on the other hand, has never given me a problem except for a few cracked case necks in the 1946 vintage, I think. It is hard-shooting, pretty accurate ammo for surplus.

So I finally got out and shot some of this stuff. The Turk went off without a hitch. Recoil wasn't even too bad. Lol. The Egyptian had one round that needed a second strike out of 30. Not bad for older surplus.

I just picked up a 250 round can of 1980 Yugo M49 on 1919 links for $.26 a round. This is the third can from the same seller over the past year or so. When he finds some buried in a closet, he calls me knowing that I'll buy it. Never have shot any, too much Turk and 50's Yugo to shoot up first. I better get busy i guess.
