Well, the board is either fixed, or it's going to run terribly. Cross your fingers and hope for the best. I'm at my technical limit right now.

7.62 OFV 86

#1 Post by Hammerdown » Wed Jun 14, 2017 9:22 pm

Got a few rounds of 7.62X51 OFV 86. I believe its Indian and made in 1986. I was going to shoot it in a CETME. Is it corrosive, split cases anything like that?

It is Boxer/NonCorrosive. Quality may be suspect on that era OFV mfg. The 1970s production is OK as the line was set up by Winchester/Olin I'm that decade and some QC people/procedures seem to be in place.

The 1990s and later OFV imported is REAL BAD ammo. I can not say for sure where your 1986 quality falls as all I shot was 1974-75 and no issues were noted.

Good to know its boxer primed. I'm trying to get out this weekend and see how it shoots. Thank you.

Update, the OFV 86 is not very good, bad accuracy and the extraction rim on some of the cases was under sized.
I had a few rounds of OFV 77 and it was very good in accuracy and good brass.
All was boxer primed.
