Well, the board is either fixed, or it's going to run terribly. Cross your fingers and hope for the best. I'm at my technical limit right now.

125grain bullets in K98’s?

#1 Post by KneverKnew » Sat Nov 02, 2019 6:03 pm

Will lighter weight 125 grain 8mm “Kurtz” bullets shoot well in the K98K’s? Anyone try this?

Those soft point bullets (not Kurtz specific) have been around since the 1960s as a “varmint” option for 8x57 loads. I have used them but never achieved “match” accuracy. They can make nice reduced recoil loads for plinking or for a youngster to hunt with @2500fps or busting water jugs @3000fps.

They shoot very well out to 500 yards. A great White tail Deer load. Very flat shooting out to 200 yards.

Thanks for the reply’s. To clarify, you are saying the 125 grain 8mm bullets shoot well out of K98 barrels with their specific 1 in 9.45 twist rate? The bullets I have to try are the Hornady “8mm Kurz” 125 HP’s.

That twist is much more than what is required to stabilize a 125 gr 8mm bullet. The only really “bad” twist is...not enough.

Thanks. Then I should be good. Might even try them in my G43 for light Plinkers.
