I handled a 9mm Beretta pistol today that looked like a Helwan, on the left side of the slide there was plenty of Arabic writing and on the right side it was stamped 9MM IRAQ. I assume this was a vet bring back and they will most likely demand a high price tag for the next few years. Have any of you here encountered any of these? Regards, Jericho

The 9mm Iraq stamping sounds more like an importer's marking. They were made in Egypt if I remember correctly. Do you have any pictures you could post?

I know berreta sold the machines to make the helwan to egypt and i think they sold some to iraq back in the day and iraq continued makeing the 9mm till late 80's or early 90's. I watched a prgram about those guns so if my info is a little off its been awhile since i have seen it lol....

I know there was also a smaller copy made by TARIQ . It looked like a mod 70 in 7.65 / .32 acp. It had some medallions on the grips with the face of I believe was Saladin. the link has some pics and history. Does anyone know how much its worth???

As to the value, there really is no set value, I am a big collector of Iraqi military stuff, and I usually see them with different prices, there is never a set price on them.

indeed beretta lisenced manufacture of the beretta 951 in iraq. while in iraq we were under gen order #1 which strctly prohibited us from bringing back guns. I saw a number of very nice guns I would of liked to bring back. my unit had a connex full of stuff we captured including tariq's, browning hi powers enfields and mausers. I am now in Afghanistan and we are allowed to send home antiques only, which at least is something

Would a very old AK-47 be considered an antique? Maybe send some my way! hahah Whats the reason for not sending guns home? As long as they are neutered, like no full auto, shouldn't they be ok?

A Firearm is not legally a Antique unless it was made before 1898.
There will never be a antique AK 47.
It can be a C&R after 50 years but never antique.

As for sending home a gun? The military is run by anti gun, suck up, yes men, Liberals and has been for many years. They do not like guns!
On top of that you have to look at the import bans that have been in effect for years.
GCA 68, GCA 86, and the Import ban of 89.
We are actually very lucky to have any guns imported.

I carried one in baghdad for a few months when we went to the big fobs so i could leave the rifle in the truck. I put some armory marks on the handle and put a lanyard on it and black tape over gold seal on the pistol grip. Shot very well hit an old k pot 20 feet away with every round in the mag, fed our rounds very well American Eagle i think. took pics of it ill post them when i get back to germany if any one wants to see them.

I have been looking for one of these for my collection!!!

I have only seen one for sell, I asked the seller to sell it for $3,000.00 but he will not sell it for that.. I even offered to pick it up to save on the hastle of sending it in the mail..

He listed it 2 times on GunBroker and it had a reserve the bid was each time in the $2,400.00..

What is the true value of these pistols???
