yugo 24/47 handguard

Post by KySwiss »

I was wondering if the upper hand guard from a VZ24 would fit the yugo 24/47? I have heard they are identical rifles and the hand guard looks the same.

To my limited knowledge the Yugo M24, M24/47, and M48 use the same handguard. They go around $45-60 a hand guard due to so many with cracks

The handguard from a K98 will not fit. Now a Vz 24 is close, but not correct. The Vz 24 hand guard is different around the barrel band. I have not taken mine off the rifles just by eye they are approximately the same length and have a similar fit around the rear sight. My M48 A seems thicker and has a different wood type. It might work with some fitting, but it will not be right. A hobbled mess, I do not own a 24/47. So take this info with a grain of salt. Best to find a Yugo hand guard so fit is close and wood type and band location is correct. Not really an asn., but I do own a 24/47 to try a fit on it.
It would be best for a member to actually fit a VZ 24 hand guard onto a Yugo 24/47 for a true answer. Almost any will need some fitting and stain matching. I still think you are best off with a correct one for wood match and an almost a snap on fit. Hand guards seem to crack and hence are hard to find and cost around $50. I am not sure maybe someone makes new ones as replacements. Here is what a yugo looks like:

Here is an interesting post about bands and hand guards:

Here is one at a crazy price, but you might be able to find a used stock at around 75-100 with a hand guard???
https://www.ebay.com/itm/HANDGUARD-M48- ... 3095!US!-1
The description states:
GOOD CONDITION UPPER STOCK HAND GUARD!!
WILL FIT M48, M48A & M24/47 MAUSER RIFLES.
SOLID WOOD, NEW, UNUSED CONDITION.
May possibly require sanding to fit your stock.
OK, I see your problem. $200 + for complete Yugo stocks on a $100 rifle. Parts be nuts... kind of crazy how a stock is worth more than the rifle back in 2010.

based on that information, I will just keep the one I have. It snapped off at the swivel band, but it is functional. Thanks 72.

Unless you have a wood lathe kinda hard. Can be done from a slab but still difficult. Might be better to splice and repair the one he has.
