Arisaka Dovetail

I have a Type 38 with a very dry and shrunk stock. I was able to take out all the screws holding it together and the butt just slid right apart. Right now I am soaking the joint in BLO in order to try to expand the wood back into place. It may take a while.

Thanks for sharing, interesting to see it pretty close to as it was originally and I damaged. I'll be interest to see how much it snugs up.

It will not expand much with BLO.
There are a few things that could be done, but you run the risk of damaging the finish.

I was just trying something I saw in a post a while back. I don't expect much to happen.

It will help some, but as long as you have a good secure but plate it will stay in places.
You can secure it without altering the stock. This is achieved by using a small wedge of wood to fill the gap. Most of the time you can use a toothpick or two. You just have to be careful and not crack the stock. Its best to put the wedge at the top of the dovetail. The wedge does not have to be long, but it needs to be just big enough so that you will have to lightly tap it in.
