Hi all, I'm new to the forum and I hope I'm not rehashing something that had been gone over previously. I did look around but didn't find anything.
I have a 1930 Model Broomhandle (which I have also heard called M30) that I bought back in the 1980s for around $125. It was one of the ones imported from China by either Sarco or Fed Ord if I remember correctly. Most of these pistols were in "NRA Terrible" condition, and mine was no exception. The bore (and I use that term loosely) looked like a lunar landscape. Cosmetically and mechanically the gun was in sound condition, so I felt it was a candidate for refurbishment. After taking care of refinishing the gun I sent it off to a company whose name I no longer remember to have it re-bored and rechambered in 9mm. It came back with a bore that still looked like a lunar landscpe, only with rifling.
So I sent it out a second time to another company who relined the barrels and chambers on Broomhandles and got back a fireable weapon that I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with, even if I was inside the barn. The liner was so off-center it was ridiculous.
At least it was capable of sending bullets down range, until one day when I was firing some surplus 9mm that must have been a bit too hot. The chamber liner swelled a bit in the middle, so now the spent shells stick in the chamber. When I punch them out using a cleaning rod they are visibly swollen. I'd like to get the chamber relined again. Does anyone know if any companies are still doing this work?
Attached is a photo of the Broomhandle along with my 1940 Mauser-built Luger.

I just had "The Broom Closet" in FL reline/chamber my Bolo in 7.63. I'm happy with the work.

Hey, KilroyCD

I really like your luger and mauser broomhandle!!! they look like you really give them some TLC often. big thumbs :thumb:

did you check these guys out for barrel reline?

http://www.redmansrifling.com/mauser.htm

i have no experience with them, and never had any job done by them, so only use that as a additional reference.

good luck,

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I looked at Redman's site and they rebore to 9mm, but only reline 7.63. It also says that they are not reboring to 9mm at this time.
Mine was already rebored and relined to 9mm, so I'm going to call the Gun Rack (aka The Broom Closet) in Starke, FL. Hopefully they can just reline the chamber, as the rifling is good.
Thanks for the kind words Icfmotm, I try to take good care of them. The Luger was a badly rusted basket case when my late father got it, and he had it refinished back in the early 1960s. It has all matching parts (except the magazine), and is a nice shooter. The Broomhandle is (as you can probably guess) still a work in progress.

Well i can tell you take care of your firearms, and the Luger refinish job is very well done.

i saved a 7.63x25 mauser caliber broomhandle myself from a dealer's PART BIN, got it for $120, i did not send it out to get it refinished, because it is completely functional piece, except for a worn out bore and looked terrible when i first got it, the entire gun was coated in rust (on the outside) and light pitting cover the entire surface, but after i cleaned it. The gun turn out looking pretty good, sorry i don't have a before picture, but here are some AFTER pictures.

I have taken it to the range, it function well, shot about 2 boxes of ammo, no such thing as accuracy, 10 yard shoot produce shots on paper looks like some one took a 12 gauge and blast it.

I'm hoping I might have found a way around this without getting the chamber relined (for now). I looked around on the Sportsman's Guide website and found some Russian-made 9mm rounds (Brown Bear) that have a lacquered steel case, a 115gr bullet (as opposed to 124gr) and a lower muzzle velocity and muzzle energy than other commercial ammo I tried to fire through the gun. I'm hoping the combination of all of these aspects will limit the case expansion and allow the empty rounds to eject. I'll find out on Sunday after the CMP shoot at my club.

Well, my idea didn't work. It looks like I've got to send it off to be re-lined again.
