Last week I looked at a Walter PP. It had no finish at all, Ido not think it ever did. The metal had crude machine cutting marks on all pieces. The only markings I could find were Cal. 7.62 on the slide and a seriel number under the trigger on the frame. It was in a crude almost cardboard holester. It was brought back, along with a K98 and a Walter 22 trainer, by a vet after the war. Does anyone know anything about what the PP might be? Thanks Detroit-1

NO EXPERT HERE !!!! According to what others have said and I have learned, the mountain of parts left after VE Day resulted in lots of guns being assembled for the GI'S. These are called cigarette guns , owing to the basic unit of currency at that time and place. This would account for the lack of markings, proofs and finish of this gun. Or it be something else.

Without pictures it's hat to say. It coul be a late war build, light finish and only a few markings or as stated previously it could be a piece together after the war. US GI's over ran the Walther factory and brought home many post captured assembled guns. On the slide was there a serial number or the marking AC?

I only looked at the gun for a short time but do not remember any numbers on the slide. The insides were still filled with grease. Any idea on the holster? It apeared to be a normal PP holster but was made quite cheeply. Thanks detroit-1

As leather stores started to dry up the Germans began to make laminated paper holsters. In some circles these are sought after and in others there though as junk. I think that would be an intersting set and good representation of the end of war production quantity. Id be interested in it if it was me, could be cool.

Maybe but with much cruder Machining and no finish. I am trying to buy the Walter 22 trainer from him so I hope to look at it again. When I do I will let you know. Detroit-1

The Walther training rifles are scarcer than the more common variations. Make sure it is complete and totally operable before you buy. Spare parts are invisible,
