Swedish m96/38 pawnshop sporter

Post by professrh »

Here's the Swede sporter I picked up back in December. Didn't have to do a thing to it beyond pulldown and cleaning. Scope, case, and sling were included.

It liked my go-to Swede load. Liked it even better when I switched over to 140-grain Speer Hot-Cor SPs:

The whole rig cost me a bit less than half what I paid for my Husqvarna m38 back in 2012.

Thanks, swede. I'm pretty pleased with it.

I had to haggle a bit with the salesperson, but not much, really. Surplus sporters don't seem to move too fast--at least, not where I live. People know better than to buy them. Which has given me an idea, actually. . . .

Here's the rifle with a couple of feral hogs, back in March. (I also took two does with it during the 2016-17 season).

This is a fine rifle that I have tried unsuccessfully to convince Prof to sell to me at a profit...he did let me shoot it though.

The question is, are you now scouring the pawnshops looking for a nice sporter like mine? I'm convinced yours is out there somewhere . . . probably nearer than you think.

It's funny that you say that...I actually did see a very similar one on consignment at my favorite gun shop this week, but the price is around what you paid for your M38, so I passed on it for now. I'll keep my eye on it though. Maybe if it sits for a while, the seller will lower the price.

LCP, I have a suspicion that we are in the sweet spot right now regarding sporters. Sooner or later, people are going to start figuring out that this is a new collecting opportunity, and the prices will start going stupid high. Maybe I'm wrong....

Very nice carbine! Any Chance that the rifle was once a 94 Carbine? The discolored area in the original rear sight location looks too short for the m38 rear sight base.
I was R.L.E.V.M. on our old forum.

I didn't think so, but my ignorance in these matters is nearly boundless. I'll post a photo of the receiver markings when I can.
