Well, the board is either fixed, or it's going to run terribly. Cross your fingers and hope for the best. I'm at my technical limit right now.

85,000 plus M-1 Rifles are comming home!

#1 Post by Rapidrob » Sun Aug 27, 2017 8:00 pm

I just got word that the DCM has the go ahead to import from the Philippines over 65,000 M-1 rifles. I'm told the rifles are free to the DCM,shipping has to be paid to get the rifles back into the USA.
Lets hope the DCM can keep the "greed" down on the prices but I'm not holding my breath.

have you priced the insane prices that dealers and private individuals want for their M1s?

believe me the CMP prices on their M1s are going to be good. but more importantly, they will go through a complete tear down and refurbishment process, where unserviceable parts replaced and they will be honestly graded on barrel condition.

but, if you find the price isn't to your likening then you are free not to buy one.

CMP service grades are $730 shipped right now. That's less than the "street" price. I just received another Springfield from them Friday.

I would think this would help to keep the price down. As long as they
have rifles, they set the market price. When they are finally all gone,
the real market will set the price. I hope they were stored well. It is
not the best climate for rifle storage.

Sounds like you got a keeper. The WW2 receiver is a nice catch.

Good deal. Maybe I’ll pick one up if they are in decent condition.

The Garand is a decent utility rifle. Good for hunting (a bit heavy), target shooting and if the SHTF as well.

Does anyone know the condition of these rifles? Everything I've heard is that the Korean rifles were more or less rode hard and put away wet....

condition depends on the grade you choose. it's the barrel condition is you want the best you can afford; muzzle wear and throat erosion. wood is immaterial, they're going to dinged up, unless you choose the higher grades above service grades

service grade is generally going to be the one to go with, muzzle wear will be 3 or less and the throat erosion will gauge less than 5.

seeing you're located in Ga. why not just drive to ANNISTON, AL to the CMP STORE SOUTH which is next door to you, then and you can hand pick out the M1 you want. that is what I did, and found a very nice SG HRA Garand with the original barrel, the barrel date match the year of the serial number, that gauged out to 1.5 for MW and 2 for TE. that is also how I got my carbine, M44 (when they had a blow out sale on them :)) and seal cans of ammo.

you can buy it right there and be on your way home. all the paperwork is right there that you need to fill out, you just need to bring the required supporting documents. what you need in way of documents is on the CMP site

I've seen cars with NH, NY, Mi. In. and a bunch of other out of states plates at CMP NORTH STORE parking lot at CAMP PERRY, OHIO. all there to hand pick out their Garand. :)

here is the grade criteria;

Only thing I know is that people are going to be looking for parts like crazy to fix them. I am going to be busy on the CMP forums. :D

there isn't going to be anything to fix on a M1 from the CMP. the rifles will go through a refurbishment process
