Value?

Post by grazza74 »

I purchased from a distributor what was said to be a Bulgarian Makarov and has the importer stamp indicating it is. However the factor stamps are Russian, Izevsk. It is in very good condition has matching numbers but the finish is dull and not a shiny as a Bulgarian. What would the estimated value of this pistol be with two East German magazines? I can add photos later if necessary.

Does it look like this?

Book value 2020 on a matching true Russian is see page 307: Fair $200, Good $500, Very Good $700, like new Excellent $900 :Now minus $100 if no :( matching mag.
source is Standard Catalog of Military Firearms 9th edition 2020 Phillip Peterson. A few of these came in with Bulgarian ones in the 1990s. BUT , it has to be Russian as shown with correct mag. The magazines are numbered to the gun. Some are bring backs. Very hard to find. Some were converted to BB pistols and those cost $450
Then there are bring backs:

With original Russian ones, a hard find, the non matching magazine, your finish and the guns condition, as well as the location and size of the import mark- discreet import marks are best for top buck; all these factors play into and have have an influence on current prices. But if you can get it at BB gun price say $400-500 I'd grab it if you got that much cash handy. That would be a deal. I got a Gen. 1 BBcopy ( can show pic if anyone needs to se it) , but never found a true Russian marked Makarov at a gun show in WI.
Read this Gun Digest article about a possible source of that import marked pistol:

I assume you know about this web page and reference site: https://www.makarov.com/index.html

Import marks say minus 25% if large and too clearly seen. Examples

I assume you want to know if you got a deal or shorted??? Sound like you paid Bulgarian price for a fair Russian. Not a bad deal . It would have been perfect if the mag matched.

It is definitely a Russian like the first photo. Circle Triangle, not a circle 10. I know it being Russian it is worth more than a Bulgarian, the importer stamped it as Bulgarian in the dot matrix stamping. I'd say it is good reconditioned. I bought 2 Bulgarians and 1 was the Izhevsk the other was an actual Bulgarian. Thank you for the input.
