I just picked up this m57. It has no crest or grip lanyard loop. It doesn't appear to have ever had a grip lanyard loop. All numbers match. Also has two different markings on grip panels. Anyone have any info on this?

Looks like a M75 A Yugo civilian model with non military grips that have the later Zastava-Arms Company marked grips. You see the a large C and smaller Z inside a circle trade mark of the Zastava company with a production date of 93 for 1993. The M75 A came in original 7.62x25 while a similar looking model the M70A came in 9mm. Magazines may be sterile- no markings lacking a electro number and base loop. There may be a small electro inscribed Z on parts and some had a small electro inscribed circle with a C and z trade mark at the base of the pistol. These pistols had the military features removed: Mag loop, lanyard loop on the pistol, no Yugo crest, and non military, unnumbered matching magazines. This is a newer, non military version to sell. Generally these are mint, NIB, never used pistols. They have a C serial number & no crest. They are always changing the safety and markings as time goes on. I think 92/93 was a change over former military production to civilian production- so a lot of odd ball attributes are observed. It should be a nice pistol to fire. What do the inside markings on the parts look like. Be sure to clean the little guy- some have cosmo goo inside the firing pin chamber which is a dog to take down without parts jumping all over. Look for filings and rough machining on these-safety may hang up and need a little polish. Trigger will be gritty, with a hard pull also needs some polishing of the assy. Grips may have plastic shavings under the edges. Lub the trigger assy inside and safety mech. It depends on who made it, some are machined very nicely like the military pistols, others look like a drunk made them showing lots of milling marks. Yours seems to have a nice finish and it may be the same on the inside milling details. Yours has the newer barrel stamp and the 93 date.

Your is similar to mine dated 92 that I got from Todd at family and is shown in detail on pages 2-3. Please take a look. It has more military features, but they are very similar. If possible, when you take yours down, please show the parts markings so others can see how different or similar each of our 1990s dated, non crested pistols are. Both have a C serial #. Mine still has the military grips and loop. My Trigger/hammer assy. has some rough maching like it came from a different source. It was also marked odd with a set of initials? Our exterior finish on each pistol is very well done- perfection. My frame machining is also nicely done. However, my electro penciled parts assy. number appears to have been ground off and my matching number rewritten. Like the frame number by the ejection port was done for another pistol or written down incorrectly on the first attempt. The slide to frame fit is smooth. Always grease the rails. More pictures of you pistols details would be great for others to see on such a similar example, if possible, PLEASE show how each part is marked. Thank You.

Thanks for the info, I did take it down after I purchased it. Overall pretty clean. I'll try to get some more pictures posted this evening. Wouldn't mind having a military example with crest.

I stumbled onto this old link where a Classic Arms M57 with the Glock-like trigger safety was purchased and then the trigger was switched out/modified back to a normal trigger and Poof ! you have a M57 without the stupid safety......,

Well I finally saw a former Classic M57 with the Glock trigger at the Fond Du Lac gun show this week end. Price was $389.

The Mag did not match and had floor plate damage, it had a normal brown holster, and some sort of muzzle break from a T33. I did not inspect the pistol up close after I saw a price tag of $389 plus $22 tax, plus paper work. $415-Not worth a $220 Tok, the dealer wants to make an extra $200?
So I guess these went up in value while normal military M57s hover around $200-260. And yes, I saw a bring back M57 for $800. No safety and no import mark on the trigger strap that was polished smooth, lacked milling marks, and exhibited a discolored blue where the import mark was removed. Price was $800 to the right sucker. No holster and 1 mag. But the mag matched! CAUTION---- Do not be stupid- if you see these reconverted and doctored M57 FAKES. They are not bring backs- they are bs.


At least the first dealer was honest -just trying to pay for his time, travel, motel, food, and table costs at a 2 day show. I may revisit him if he can come down a wee bit and it is a A, J , or M serial number pistol.

Actually after a search there are these Classic batch of M57s on gun broker with the the trigger replaced, but the import mark remains intact on the trigger strap and they are from reputable dealers with the starting price at $800. To me this is kind of nuts. You really must want a Tok. And I am cheep.

Granted, it is like unissued, almost perfect, has an E serial number (1967) and is in original military configuration with holster, 2 mags, cleaning rod and it is so, so, sweet. Import mark remains intact. But are these really going at these values ? .

This pistol is the cleanest example of an M57 I have ever seen. It is in excellent overall condition, numbers matching (slide, barrel, frame), with very minor surface wear. The Yugo crest is distinct and unmarred. The bluing is in great shape, and has the usual brownish hue to it. This pistol was imported with a safety trigger (like Glock) which has since been replaced with a standard M57 trigger (original included with purchase). Import markings are subtly placed under the trigger guard, thereby maintaining a very clean "as issued" appearance. The pistol comes with three magazines (two with lanyard loops), and an excellent condition brown leather military flap holster. At some point in its history, the pistol was hand numbered inside the slide port and mag well (pictured).

This is a perfect example of an all matching M57. If Big Ben at Classic would have sent me one of these, I would have freaked out. Most were pretty beat, well used military pistols that I have read about. This may be a unique specimen. It is certainly one of the best you will ever see; so I just had showed some of the owner's pictures with screen shot close ups. This is too good of an example not to document. The pistols serial number is stamped and is always found on the Barrel, Slide, and Frame, these must match and can be seen on the outside of a pistol. Like wise, the electro-written assembly numbers match on the internal slide port, the trigger assy bar, and the inside of the mag grip frame. Look for these on any M57 you buy. Some have this assy. # on the magazines and also the barrel. The slide has a nice Yugo military crest. You would be had pressed to find a nicer example. If the one at the Fond Du Lac show looked like this, I would have got it ASAP. This one has a true Yugo replacement trigger, not a T33 trigger. Most just use an easy to find T33 trigger- look at a replacement's trigger markings to be sure your replacement trigger is an actual Yugo m57 trigger. It also came with the Glock-like one that was removed. The price of true M57 replacement triggers has jumped from like $10-15 to upwards of $40 -60 depending on its markings.

Here is the Classic video with this special batch with Glock triggers. Around April 2018. These were all military crested M57s, most did not get two magazines only one with a lanyard loop- Unnumbered, & holster at $220, with shipping it was around $250.Then add the FFL transfer fee from 35-90 bucks. So they were valued at $285-340. They considered these non C & R.
How many missed the boat on these
I counted 87 in the top layer, X 6 crates equals at least 522, and a possible double stack ( I can not tell) in each crate or may be a total of 1044 pistols?????
There are plenty of M57s with the drilled safety in the frame, but this is the only batch I know of with a Glock-like trigger safety. Almost all visible in the crate at Classic have Military magazines with the lanyard loops not the flat bottom base.

T33 Trigger that works, but is an incorrect trigger on a Yugo M57. Also incorrect maker's marks (Russian, Romanian, or Polish) are a dead giveaway.

I bought my M57 just before SOG went out of business. Serial #C126xxx. Made 1960-1961? Has no crest on top of slide. Military or civilian model? Thanks for any and all answers.

Some military and most later civilian Toks both have C serial numbers, but the key is are there any recent markings on the pistol as shown on this photo:

Look close at the barrel for that odd marking and look at the C side holding retainer clip for a date stamp like "92", "97".
see this lower picture that has the antler like trade mark & TBT mark on the barrel and the date stamp "93" near/under the clip.

Take a look at my C serial # 39644 1992 from Todd and Paulmooney's C serial #184359 1993 commercial pistol photos shown on pages 2-3 and 4.The Key is that date stamped near the Retaining clip. Is your pistol dated here? It should be a post 1982 date, then it's a civilian version. What type of grip markings? Is the lanyard loop missing on the frame? Is it also missing on the magazine? Your pistol should be 7.62x25 not 9mm. In contrast, an early military Yugo, C serial numbered pistol lacks the recent trade marks, but the Tok should have parts marked with numbers like 2-00.004 0r 2-00. 001 or 1-00.001. These are not on a civilian version. Look at the trigger. Can you show a picture? If the frame has military markings, but the slide is sterile with just a etched serial number lacking the crest and C it could be an in field replacement slide on a military C serial number pistol frame. This would be a great find. The Tokarev field service armory kit did come with one sterile slide in the repair box.
