Well, the board is either fixed, or it's going to run terribly. Cross your fingers and hope for the best. I'm at my technical limit right now.

8mm Lebel Revolver Load

#1 Post by SWIHARTMARK » Sun Dec 10, 2017 10:13 pm

I have some of those Graf FMJ 8mm bullets for pistols and wanted to know of a load using Unique powder that can be used for them. I believe they are 100 grains in weight. I just turned down some 32-20 Winchester cases into 8mm revolver cases and now I need a load. Any help would be appreciated.

Best Regards,

Mark

I shortened twenty 32-20 Winchester cases down to 2.07-2.08" long and then used a .330" sizer I made to expand the cases to accept Graf's 8mm FMJ bullets. I used a load of 3.1-3.2 grains of Unique in the round. The results from the range had two of 12-14 rounds having the bullet getting stuck in the barrel. The recoil was rather mild, so I will up the load to 3.4 grains of Unique next time around. Once I get a lathe in the garage, I'll try to make a .330" diameter bullet mold from a Lee Precision aluminum blank. I read on Gunboards where the standard French load was approximately 3.9 grains of Unique and this powder is close to their own smokeless powder used at the time for pistols. The old girl did get off around a dozen rounds, so I think I'm close to having a load at least for Graf's bullets. I didn't see a bunch of .330" pistol molds on the market, so making my own looks like an option once I get the tooling here this spring. I might just make it a flat nosed mold it the is easier, but who knows.

Best Regards,

Mark

Mark,

I reload for that pistol. I used 32-20 brass cut down to 1.07 with 3.8 gns UniqueAZ pushing a 100gn .325 ball ammo. AOL was 1.44

Thanks for the load. I think I might go with 3.7-3.8 grains now.

Best Regards,

Mark
